A Broken Disposition
“I have a broken disposition. I’m a liar who thirsts for the truth” – Jars of Clay, “Two Hands” I’m a horribly inconsistent blog writer, which is ironic considering the paths I’ve chosen in life. First is my desire to be a writer…you know, in general, the ability to call myself a writer to my friends. And while it may be easy to just say it out... read more

Reflections on a Birthday
I’m not sure if I really like birthdays, and not just because I keep getting older. I just turned 29 on May 22 and it’s really weird to think that I’m almost 30 years old. I went to Austin with my best friend Heidi, my sister, her husband, and some of their friends. We went down to float the river, drink beer, and just enjoy our 3 day weekend, which also coincided with my... read more

Graduation
I officially graduated with my Master’s in Counseling Psychology, and as I have been reflecting on my experience over the last 2 years, I had an epiphany. The reason that I have been so frustrated with myself is because I am trying to force myself into a mold that was not meant for me. If you read my past blogs or have talked to me much in the past couple of months, you would know I have been... read more

Money in the Mail…
This morning when I rose out of bed, I turned on the coffee pot, opened my Bible and began to pray. And after my morning with God, I began to close the Bible and carry on with my day until this caught my eye: But know this: difficult times will come in the last days. For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy, unloving,... read more

Lesson from my boys: from the mouth of babes
So here we are again, but after the book I wrote last time I am going to keep this one short. A few days ago I was sitting at my house eating dinner when my wife’s phone rings. Now, my wife’s ringer is one of my very favorite worship songs- Mighty to Save. But, we were just simply eating dinner and it was no time for singing praises. Well, it seems like someone forgot to tell Deacon that... read more

Jut wanted to say that I am glad Mr. Adam Paul Sands has joined TPE as a thinker/blogger. Welcome, Adam…I know you will inspire and challenge us. Go to the blogs tab on TPE to find and bookmark his page. In my world, things are busy and I STILL haven’t settled in a routine of blogging. But I have some thoughts on my mind, which I hope to develop and post without the need to try and perfect... read more

The Prayer of a Man…
What if you woke up every morning, did your hair, ate breakfast and was off to work/school, and each morning when you stepped out on your front porch, you overlooked this: How soon would it be before you were taking advantage of such a beautiful and peaceful atmosphere? One of the things that I am most fascinated with is history. At one point in time I wanted to be an archeologist in Egypt, uncovering... read more

The old smoke house…
Yesterday morning, Cass and I went out to the tool shed, which was once a smoke house many years ago, and repainted it for her grandparents. I’ve been learning a lot about the history of this farm, and even though it is not my bloodline that has lived here for close to 200 years or more, I still feel that by being here, seeing the scenery and helping to work to maintain the place, it has earned me a... read more
